In Collaboration with Fendi
To celebrate the opening of their new boutique on London’s Sloane Street, Fendi collaborated with myself and seven other RCA Design Product students to create an installation using their discarded leather. The brief title was ‘Craft/Punk’, the mix of well-practised tradition (associated with Fendi handbags) with raw-edge spontaneity.
‘Blown Leather Portals’ were designed to hold Fendi’s smaller products. The hand-blown glass bubble shapes are enveloped in textured latex cast from Selleria leather to create a delicate leather ‘skin’ appearance. Each ‘portal’ is ringed with hand stitched Selleria leather - a viewing hole for customers to catch a glimpse of the treasures within.
